I knew that I wanted to do a Christmas Q&A/tag for today’s post but I had no idea what sort of questions to answer so I decided to turn to my trusty friend, Google. I found the following 20 questions from Root Report which I am going to answer for you guys today! Feel free to leave your answers in the comments or answer it on your own blog and send me the link because I’d love to see!
Use one noise to describe how excited you are for Christmas.
I think that these questions were designed for use in a video so since I can’t portray a noise to you, I’m going to go for a word. I think the word that best describes how excited I am is WOO!
Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
Since meeting my boyfriend I have opened one present on Christmas eve and it’s always something cosy like pyjamas or fluffy socks!
What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?
I wrote a whole list of traditions here but I am probably the most excited about Christmas eve boxes!
Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
When we were children we always had a real tree however my mum now has a fake tree because it was easier now that we’re all grown up. That being said, I live in my boyfriend’s house and we have a real tree here!
What is your favorite Christmas film?
This is pretty much the hardest question because they’re all incredible but my ultimate favourite would probably have to be… Miracle on 34th Street. It’s just so magical and it always makes me well up!
Where do you usually spend your holiday?
We tend to split the day between my mum’s house where we usually spend the morning and my boyfriend’s mum’s house where we usually spend the afternoon and evening. Depending on our work we go up to his dad’s house for a couple of days after Christmas too.
What is your favorite Christmas song?
This is another really tough one, I love Justin Bieber mistletoe and this year I have discovered a cover of White Christmas by Billie Marten which is incredible. There is no feeling like ‘driving home for Christmas’ playing in the car on Christmas day though. It’s such a tough choice!
What is your all-time favorite holiday food/sweet treat?
There’s this one Christmas cookie recipe that my mum got from her mum and she makes them every year and they literally don’t even have time to cool down before we scoff them all and they’re incredible! She’s trusted me with the recipe this year so I’m hoping that I can make them taste as yummy as she does!
Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?
Hand on heart I can honestly say that I prefer to give people gifts. There’s something so exciting about spending ages choosing something special for someone who means a lot to you, wrapping it up and making it look beautiful and then seeing their face when they open it!
What is your favorite thing about Christmas?
I’ve literally never even considered this! It’s a toss-up between going to bed on Christmas Eve, putting out the carrot and the mince pie and just knowing the magic that is in store OR waking up super early on Christmas Eve, creeping around the house knocking on my brothers and sisters doors to see who’s up and running into our mum’s bed with our stockings!
When do you start getting excited about Christmas?
My boyfriend and I met in October doing the Christmas moves at work so usually after our anniversary in the middle of October I start to get excited however then I usually forget about it a little bit and start getting properly excited again at the end of November!
What is the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?
Sentimentally when I was quite young I got a ‘girls guide to life’ type book from my nanna and I loved it to death quite literally. My mum had to put it in the bin because all of the pages were ripping out and it was just a mess but I think I loved it because I could picture her picking it out for me and it was the last gift she gave me before she passed away so it was really special. Having said that, my boyfriend bought me a Satnav for Christmas when I was learning to drive and it was literally the most useful gift because I probably use it on average about once a week because I have the worst direction!
What is the worst present you’ve ever received?
I can’t really think of many bad presents, I’ve had a few that weren’t bad presents, they just weren’t really suited to me. I honestly couldn’t pinpoint a ‘worst present’ – maybe that means I’ll get it this year!
As a kid, did a sibling ever receive a present that you wished was for you?
All the time! I have three older brothers and for some reason when we were kids people would get them different presents to me, for example, one year all three of my brothers got portable CD players and I got a portable cassette tape player! I was so gutted because I wanted the CD player! A couple of years later, all three of my brothers got MP3 players and I got a CD player. I couldn’t decide whether to be excited that I got the CD player finally or just gutted because again they got a more up to date present!
What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
I haven’t got a particular destination in mind but I would just love to rent a cosy cottage and take all of my family and we could all pitch in with the cooking, open presents and play games and there would be no service so we would have to talk to each other and I think it would be amazing!
Most memorable Holiday moment?
It’s not a sweet or lovely Christmas memory but the first thing that sprung to mind was the first Christmas after my parents separated, we were all at my mum’s house and my dad popped in to deliver our presents and see us all. He started handing out presents and he gave my brother a birthday present because he had missed his birthday a couple of months earlier and I’m always a guesser, I love guessing and I could tell by the shape that it was a calendar. Thinking I was being hilarious (and I did get a few laughs!) I called out “you got him a calendar for his birthday? What a shit 21st birthday present!” Whilst I did get some laughs, my dad instantly burst into tears because apparently, he hadn’t realised that it was his 21st birthday so he hadn’t bothered to get him anything special. My brother probably should have thanked me though because as a result of that event my dad booked him a holiday to Amsterdam with some friends to make up for it!
Do you make New Years resolutions? Do you stick to them?
I always try and make resolutions but I’m not brilliant at sticking to them! I do seem to get better every year though so maybe this will be the year that I stick to my resolutions!
What makes the holidays special for you?
I think the whole experience of seeing friends and family, drinking, eating and exchanging gifts is what makes it special for me. I love my family so much and I don’t get to see them enough so it’s such a special time to make memories and just enjoy each others company which I think is so important as we all get older.
What’s the best part about Christmas for you?
I think this is pretty much the same as the last question but just spending time with my family and getting to see their faces when they open their presents! Because I’m one of five and we all have boyfriends and wives now we decided that this year we would just buy for one person rather than all 8 of us and I found out the other day that everyone was arguing over who I had to buy for because they all love my presents so much! I was actually so happy when I heard that because it shows that all of the nights of scrolling and searching do pay off!
You have been granted one Christmas wish…what will it be?
This would probably be one of the wishes that you regret but to have snow on Christmas day would just be magical! Although not too much snow because I have to travel but once I get home we can have all the snow!
Which is your favourite question and your answer to it?
Love, Alice x
